Gyeongju

Gyeongju is a a small touristy town about 30 min from Pohang. It is famous for its cherry blossoms in the spring.

I thought this was funny. Some people decided to dry their clothes on the bushes near the temple.

I forgot the name for this, but essentially, you place a stone on a stack and make a wish without toppling the whole thing.

Cherry Blossoms....

Temples...

Random Korean family...

Me and a friend from work, Hyeun Jin (I think that's how you spell it)

Golden Pig...you rub it for good luck.

There were hordes of school children there on field trips. They wanted a picture with me :)

This toddler was just lying in the middle of an open field playing with sand.

People write their intentions on these black stones. This one caught my eye...partly because it's in English, and partly because of what it says.

Maggots...I'm pretty sure.

Museum

The DMZ -- Demilitarized Zone

The DMZ is neutral or buffer territory between North and South Korea. Four secret tunnels were found in this area (in the latter part of the 20th century) known to have been dug by the North Korean military. Cameras weren't allowed inside though.

I'm flanked by Sarah (on the right) who is a fellow English teacher in Pohang, and her sister visiting from Canada. We are standing a foot from a known mine field.

We had to stand behind a yellow line about 30 feet from the view of the DMZ. The tall Germans who were on our tour bus got amazing shots, while us average-sized people got something similar to what I've posted below. To get this shot, I had to raise my camera as far above my head as possible...I didn't even know what I was shooting.

This is supposed to symbolize unification of North and South Korea.
